The journals you see here the best handmade journals we have ever found anywhere. We are publishers of books after all, and have an extended background in printing and binding so we would recognize journals that are cheap and poorly made. At Loveland Press, our journals are not the flimsy ones you find elsewhere at twice the price.
Each journal design we offer is exceptionally beautiful, functional, durable and detailed. If the journal has a “lock,” (a bamboo stick that is used to keep the covers tightly closed) the lock works. All of the selections you see are well put together with sturdy paper and strong bindings that are meant to be used. The Lokta paper, a Nepali handmade paper, is featured in all of our journals and is produced through a very simple and natural technique without using machinery of any kind. The raw materials used come from the skin/bark of the Lokta plant. A sapling stick of about 5 to 7 feet in height/length, the Lokta plant is a small woody plant of the Laurel family.
